Learn more about the creator of HYT, Dinah Rodrigues

Dinah Rodrigues was born in São Paulo in 1927. When she was young, she wished to follow in her father’s footsteps and study medicine, but she was destined to follow different paths. She graduated in philosophy and psychology at USP (Universidade de São Paulo). She is a wife, mother of three and grandmother of six.
Since she was a child, Dinah always practiced and enjoyed sports. Around the age of 40, she began practicing Hatha Yoga, her first teacher was Celeste Castilho (one of the great yoga pioneers in Brazil). Dinah used to travel every year to teach specialization course to both Brazilian and international teachers interested in the method. Now she does it online.

Years later, during a routine check-up, her gynecologist showed great admiration for her health condition and hormone levels. Dinah was 65 years old and attributed her health to regular yoga practice. At that moment, she had the idea to organize a series of exercises for female hormones. Enthusiastic, the doctor encouraged Dinah to develop a specific Yoga exercise group for women.

At that time, Dinah already had knowledge and training in Yogatherapy, so she began her research study on the physiology of menopause through various scientific articles found in the United States and Europe. While studying, she maintained her intensive personal practices: Pranayama, Chigong, and Kundalini Yoga, techniques that work with individual energy. In Brazil, she met highly regarded masters who encouraged her to continue her studies, especially of Tibetan energy techniques applied to Yogatherapy.

It was from this knowledge and from experiments with practice on her own body that Hormone Yoga Therapy was born.

Starting in 1992, Dinah began teaching classes. At that time, the method was called Hormone Yoga Therapy for Menopause. She formed a group of students who practiced regularly and provided data to support her research, based on the regular practice of the method, hormone level tests every four months, and monthly completion of a specific hormonal deficiency symptom questionnaire. The research was supported by one of her daughters, who is a health academic.

Observing the positive results, Dinah was encouraged by her family (husband, children, and grandchildren) to write and publicize her method – to alleviate menopause symptoms.

Dinah started offering specialized courses for Yoga teachers.

Experience showed that the method was very comprehensive; it was not limited to menopause symptoms but benefited women with other hormonal disorders such as: polycystic ovaries; hypothyroidism; women with difficulty conceiving, among others. Dinah then began to call her method Hormone Yogatherapy for Women.

A woman ahead of her time, creative, studious, determined, tireless, Dinah trusts in the benefits of her method which crossed borders and has been valued in several European countries. Until 2019, Dinah traveled every year to teach specialization courses for Brazilian and foreign teachers interested in the method. Currently, she teaches in-person courses in Brazil and online (EAD) courses for teachers worldwide.

Today, over 95 years old, she has expanded Hormone Yoga Therapy, making it effective for men, diabetes, and her newest application, for the immune system.

We at the Reference Center for Hormone Yoga Therapy dedicate our gratitude to the dear Dinah Rodrigues for the inspiration to create and the generosity in offering the simplicity and power of a natural treatment.
