Learn more about the creator of HYT, Dinah Rodrigues

Dinah Rodrigues was born in São Paulo in 1927. When she was young, she wished to follow in her father’s footsteps and study medicine, but she was destined to follow different paths. She graduated in philosophy and psychology at USP (Universidade de São Paulo). She is a wife, mother of three and grandmother of six.
Since she was a child, Dinah always practiced and enjoyed sports. Around the age of 40, she began practicing Hatha Yoga, her first teacher was Celeste Castilho (one of the great yoga pioneers in Brazil). Dinah used to travel every year to teach specialization course to both Brazilian and international teachers interested in the method. Now she does it online.

Years later, in a routine examination, her gynecologist showed great admiration of her health and hormonal levels. Dinah was 65 years old and associated her health with her regular yoga practices and, at that moment had the idea to organize a series of exercises targeting female hormones. Excited, the doctor encouraged Dinah to develop a yoga series specifically for women.

At this time, Dinah already had enough knowledge and training in Yoga Therapy, so she began her study of menopausal physiological research through a range of scientific articles found in the United States and Europe. While studying, she maintained her intensive personal practice: Pranayama, Chigong and Kundalini Yoga, techniques that work with individual energy. In Brazil, she met valuable masters that stimulated her to continue with her studies, especially with Tibetan energy techniques applied to Yoga Therapy.

It was with this knowledge and experimenting with practice on her own body that Hormone Yoga Therapy was born.

Since 1992 Dinah has been teaching classes, at the start the method was called Hormone Yoga Therapy for Menopause. She formed a group of female students who practiced regularly and provided her with data to support her research. Based on the regular practice of the method, hormonal level testing every 4 months and a monthly questionnaire about low hormone symptoms. The results of the research had also the support of one of her daughters who is a health care professional.

Considering all the positive results observed, Dinah’s family (husband, children, grandchildren) encouraged her to write about and publish her method – to alleviate menopausal symptoms.

Dinah started to teach specialization courses for yoga teachers.

The experience showed that the method was much broader, not limited to menopausal symptoms. It appeared to benefit women with different hormonal issues such as: PCOS, hyperthyroidism, difficulty getting pregnant, and more. Dinah then renamed her method to Hormone Yoga Therapy for Women.

A woman ahead of her time, creative, studious, determined, tireless, Dinah trusts in the benefits of her method that has broken barriers, being valued in multiple European countries. Dinah travels every year to teach specializing courses to both Brazilian and international teachers interested in the method.

Today at 95 years old she expanded Hormone Yoga Therapy, making it effective also for men, for dealing with diabetes, and the newest addition, immune system care.
